About Grepwork

Every month, the top "Who is hiring?" post on Hacker News collects hundreds of job listings as freeform comments. It is one of the better places to find engineering work with no recruiter spam, but the thread has no search and no filters, so finding roles that fit your stack means reading every comment by hand. Grepwork fetches the six most recent threads, reads each top-level post, and pulls out the company, location, remote type, tech stack, and seniority so you can search and filter a whole month in seconds.

How to use it

1. Pick a month from the picker in the header to load that thread's postings.
2. Type in the search box to match any word in a posting: company, location, or body.
3. Click the Remote, Stack, and Seniority chips to narrow the list. Stack and seniority are multi-select and combine with the search text.
4. Click a posting to expand the full original Hacker News comment.

Frequently asked questions

Where does the data come from?

The public Hacker News Algolia Search API. Grepwork reads the monthly "Ask HN: Who is hiring?" threads posted by the whoishiring account and parses their top-level comments. Nothing is scraped.

How current is it?

The board is rebuilt from the six most recent threads each time the site is deployed, so it tracks the current and recent months.

How are the stack and remote tags decided?

By transparent keyword and pattern matching over each post, not an opaque model. A post that says "no remote" is classed as onsite, and posts that do not follow the usual "Company | Location" opening are flagged so you know those fields were auto-extracted.

Is it free?

Yes. Grepwork is a static site with no login and no tracking, and the full source is on GitHub under the MIT license.
